Question for all you people posting the negative stuff about Jason Scotland, Why are you not as negative about our great leader Roberto ??
Obviously he considers Jason our No1 centre forward, so why aren't the same people who are criticising Scotland also criticising Martinez for his persistent selection of Scotland ?? BTW I think both are just doing fine for us. |

Great post. You talk a lot of sense . I hope we hear a lot more from you in the future. I think you summed up everything superbly well. My sentiments exactly. |

I'm really baffled how anyone can say Scotland had a good game Sunday. Some people really do need to take their rose-tinted specs off. He has been consistently rubbish for most of the season and to be honest, was no better last season despite his scoring record. It must be really frustrating for our midfield who are working their nuts off every week, only to watch possession squandered by a striker who lacks the skill to control the ball and lacks the strength, aggression, competitive edge and work rate to hold onto it.
People who say "it's not his style" are missing the point. No one expects him to run around like a headless chicken. I don't care whether he shuts the keeper down or runs into the channels. All I want to see from him is a lot more effort and determination. Defenders take the ball off him with such ease it's embarrasing. He looks totally disinterested at times. When the ball is played into him I want to see a meaner, more aggressive Scotland determined to make the ball his and hold onto it. Basically I want to see much more of a fighting spirit from him. Only then will he win the fans over. |

Now that we seem to be losing players left right and centre, its appropriate to talk about which players we should be targeting in january for the play off push.
Goalkeeper: Dorus in my opinion excelled apart from one flap on sunday. If we can keep Dimi on loan for the rest of the season then I feel the competition between those two would drive each other on. Right Back: For me Rangel is the best full back in the league. Yes he isnt blessed with blistering pace,if he was he'd be playing in la liga or the prem. Tate I feel is adequate cover Left back: Painter was in the form of his life before his injury. It would be nice to see O'Halloran get a run in the team as he is highly rated at Villa. Whilst Fede is excellent going forward, defensively im unsure about him Centre Backs: Monk and Williams are both playing the best football of their careers. Whilst I feel Serran, when he's adjusted to life in Wales will be good competition for them both. Centre Midfield: Bodde is a huge huge loss and I feel we have to replace him in january. Leon is in my opinion the most valuable player we have at the club, its amazing to think Jackett nearly got rid. Pratley covers miles and whilst I admit OTJ had a mare sunday he is championship standard.Gomez as shown in the last couple of games is more of a threat cutting in from the right which is where I'd play him Wingers: Butler, when on form a la Southampton is unplayable but needs to be more consistent. Gower is a very good signing but too predictable. Macca needs a good run of games to really reach his potential, the same with Orlandi. Both have shown promise, macca against england u-21's was the best player on the pitch apart from ramsey and orlandi shined against wolves. Strikers: Gorka needs to get consistent and this can only be done by more game time. Whilst im JS is biggest fan, if teams do their homework on him then he has no plan b. When he plays like he did against wolves then again he's unplayable. Bauza I dont think is physical enough for this league whilst I feel brandy will go back in january So I feel we need a playmaking midfielder, either an experienced campaigner or a youngster with a point to prove. A winger with good pace to compliment Gomez' class, if the rumour about McGinn is true then I feel he would fit the bill, if not Please Santa lets have Scott Sinclair. And if we continue to play with one up front why the hell not go back to LT10 just till May, no-one is better at ball retention than him. If brandy does go back then we also need someone with a bit of pace. Apologies for the long post |

Its fantastic isn't it?
Yeh, but wot part of it? Well, all of it! Being in the Championship! Doing well in the Championship!! Getting confused over formations!!! Wondering why a 29 goal striker can't do it at a higher level!!!! Its all fantastic isn't it! Its all fantastic apart from having to sit next to Jacka who wants Jason hung drawn and quartered when he doesn't score every game, and then wants him made President when he does! Then we have the 3 who sit behind me want Butler burnt at the stake. Then there's the fella in front of me who clearly knows little about the game in terms of what a fair challenge looks like, either that or he's just a plain ole One Eyed Jack. Then there's all this posting stuff on this Guestbook. Loves, hates and sometimes even some perspective - but not very often! God help us if we ever languish in the relegation drop zone - then the knives would be out! So for the record I think that, Sundays game was as enjoyable a local derby as I've seen between any two rivals, for years! It had everything - two good footballing teams (yes even Cardiff were capable of stringing a few passing moves together), goals, passion, bookings, justice, injustice, sendings off. Only two issues arise from this Jack was a) the need to play it at such a stupid hour of the day and b) 2 more points dropped at home. As I've said in previous postings its all about the next 3 now - Bristol City (a), Barnsley (h), Sheff Utd (h) followed then by Blackpool (a), Coventry (h) and Brum (a). My half filled optimistic side says another 12 pts to the tally, more or less securing our future in the Championship BEFORE 2009! Then, who knows, playoffs???? The one fly in the ointment is the growing list of mid-field casualties/suspensions! So, to summarise boys and girls, its 4-5-1, and if that doesn't work its 4-5-1! OK got it. The fringe players are fringe players and need to step up their performance when their opportunity comes knocking (McDonald, OTJ, Bauza, Pintado etc pay attention here now please!) Jason plays the lone striker - warts and all! Martinez knows what to do - stop panicking Mr Mainwaring! And lastly, and especially for Jacka - Trundle is a former player who now plays for a Brizzle team - NOT US! End of sports! And, I doubt that he's coming back - ever. (He doesn't command a regular starting place in a Championship line up because he's too one footed and slow - the same would be the case even if Jim could fix it! That said he's still a legend and a great entertainer and its probably best we dont see him struggle too often, unless its against us!) Excellent postings from the regulars this week, keeping this site one worth watching! Keep it up! |

Fed up with this Scotland nonsense.
He is a good finisher but needs the right service. On Sunday he played Pratley in for the first goal. He cost very little. He has a tremendous left foot. Of course, he can be frustrating but the role he's asked to play is extremely demanding and would tax Premier league players. Give him the ball in and around the box and he's lethal. He doesn't score many tap-ins (although he did at Norwich) but then neither did that other left footed maverick that continues to be so revered. Just remember those two goals which dug us out of the mire v Bristol Rovers. I do. |

Histon's hospitality is £450 for a table of 10 - 3 course meal plus match ticket - sounds like good value to me - I could try to organise if enough interest - bear in mind they might go for a price hike.

First chance to post for a while. Firstly, Hello to Nick R, good to meet up with you and have a quality conversation with the Swans with you.
Secondly, on the Scotland debate. I find it hard to see how people can be so negative about him. He has something that you cannot teach to a player and that is where the back of the net is. Are we not forgetting that he only cost us £35k or something. And we are moaning that he's scored 4-5 goals and a few assists! Have you all forgotten Steve Watkin? People moan that he doesnt chase the keeper down etc but when your the only man up front for 90 mins then why chase down nothing balls and waste your energy. Anyway, Rant over. Lets all remember where we are now and where we were 5-6 years ago. Have faith, we will see the premier league with The senor at the helm. In Roberto we Trust |

Do you think the lack of goals from Jason is down to not having Andersons pace on the wing?

apologies if this has already been seen... but the guy deserves the support.
[news.bbc.co.uk] Chris Todd column By Chris Todd Torquay United defender It's been a bit of an up and down week for me. I've started my drugs to try and fight my leukaemia but my wife has been ill and I think I've caught it off her. I've been back and forth to the toilet like a yo-yo, so I'm having to have tests to see if it is the new pills I am taking or whether it is purely the same bug that the wife has or a combination of the two. Elsewhere I've had a much more positive week. Saturday's FA Cup match at home to Oxford United was the first time we've had a home game since my diagnosis. It was the first time I had seen the fans and the reception I had was incredible. I was getting hugs and kisses and everyone was wishing me well. I went out onto the pitch at half time to do the draw and got the chance to get hold of the microphone and thank everyone for all the messages and support I've had - getting a standing ovation at the end of it was a big lift as well. The game itself was a bit crazy with Roscoe Dsane getting sent off early on, but to come away with a 2-0 win with 10 men was a good result. I didn't think the draw really went for us. I wanted either Arsenal or Swansea City away, but I suppose a home draw against Blackpool is alright. It would have been nice to get a Premiership team and the income we would have got would have been good for the club. Chris Todd was talking to BBC South West's Brent Pilnick. |

I have to say that on the Jason Scotland issue i am firmly on the side of the Trini man.
Jason is never going to please some people because to them he does not move fast enough or run around enough. However, the sacrifices he makes by being the 1 man up front is why we have scored so many goals from midfield players this year. It would be an interesting comparison to look at the top scorers in this league and see from the list which team gets most from midfield. I bet its us. He brings out defenders and that creates space for other people. When he does get chances, he puts them away. He will get around 12-15 goals this season I feel sure (if he stays with us and I would not blame him for leaving with some of our fans) because he puts most of his chances away Yes he can improve but so can many in that team and Martinez is helping him do that. Who would you want to replace him with? A 2.6m earnshaw who does nothing? A 20k per week Chopra who does not look interested. I will stick with Jason but i only wish many of our fans could see the good he offers rather than dish out abuse which is only going to make him want to leave our club. Cheers Jim |

It's just my opinion, I thought Scotland had a poor game on Sunday, but maybe it should be noted that both Gower and Butler were awful and provided very little penetration. The result was that Scotland was left fighting too many battles that he's poorly equipped for.
|
||||||||

Rangel for me just behind Bodde/Britton and Williams.
Controversial maybe but he's by far my favourite player. I don;t think i've ever seem a "tidier" player playing for us. Nearly everything he does comes off for him. His passing is second only to Ferrie. Superb, superb player. And what a great attitude. As the famous Bont says - he'd take a bullet for the Swans. Then he'll ask you what you're wearing... Bont that is not Rangel. |

Trying to move away from the JS debate(i'll keep my opinion to myself for fear of getting shouted at by T2C)
Who do you think has been the Player of the season so far. Personally i would got for Leon but special mention goes out to Williams who i think has been exceptional this season. My award though could have gone to maybe 4 others monk,prats,bodde and rangel Be interested in your views |

Interesting debate around Scotland, with some valid opinions voiced by all.
I can see why Matt and the Moscow Mule have their opinions, and some of them (no urgency getting back onside) are indefensible, really, even T2C must agree. The counter arguments from Colin re:wing play, the fact that the best ball for Scotland is where he doesn't always get the 'right' ball have some weight, but the best argument is that Martinez keeps picking him, so, while we don't HAVE to agree with this policy, his is the opinion that counts - and would we have it any other way? But to get away from criticising big Jas... ...a big pat on the back to Linden Jones and the Football in the Community team after being commended for providing employment opportunities to people with disabilities, and also being awarded Bronze status by the Football League Trust for their work in the Community. It's a shame that I can't also congratulate Linden's team by name on here, but the FITC team do not appear to be recognised/mentioned in the TEAM section on the official website (Linden is mentioned on a very hidden who's who page, but that's it)! So come on HJ, we know you read these pages, make the FITC Team a bigger feature in the clubs profile. |

Holy smoke!
Aren't we a demanding bunch! How much did Scotland cost us when we brought him in? Thirty grand? How many did he score for us last season? Was he integral in getting us promoted to this league? Where are we currently? Bottom three, looking at the drop, or top ten looking at a play off place? You are only as good as your last game? Nonsense! You do not go from scoring 30 goals last season to suddenly being shite this one. The standard of opposition this season has been a massive leap in the standard we saw last season. Give the guy a break. Would you rather we broke the bank for Freddie Eastwood in the summer? From what I saw last week I would stick with Scots. Get on the bus, and you might start to enjoy the journey. |

Excellent post from Des Cocker - now that should sum it up for everyone, but sadly it won't.
Colin, I'm watching the same games as you mun, of course i am, i see what Scotty does and doesn't do and i would agree that he doesn't do himself any favours on accasions but there's no getting away with the fact that without him this season, we would not be in the extremely healthy position we find ourselves in now. Not his goals because they've not been so easy to come by this season, but his position is pivotal in Martinez' game plan. I'm not going to bore everyone again about thankless tasks etc but as you've pointed out, give him the service and he'd finish like Sylvan Ebanks Blake - the goal against Watford shows exactly what Jason is all about. But it's not about what he's got and what he hasn't got so much for me - it's this "hounding" of him and picking on his evry mistake which is sheer stupidity. It's not fair at all and it's spreading round the morons in the Liberty like wildfire, and it;s being spread by the likes of Rees from Russia. Thousands of supporters read these forums every day and when they see someone as regular on these boards as him go off on every single occasion they can, then of course they will start to look out for the mistakes. Why would a supposed Swans fan want to do that? I got into a right scuffle after Brum with someone having a go at one of ours - the VIP from Russia wouldn't see that, wouldn't feel it. To go public with criticism is something we should avoid at all costs, Cardiff are famous for getting on their own players and managements back and it's held them back without doubt - we need to be better than that. We are better than them - we have the players with no experience on budget wages playing the best football in this league. We are acclimatising, so is Jason Scotland - i've got him down for 15 goals this season in all comps. I personally think that will be a huge achievment and i think he'll nail it. He's not Pele or Maradonna, he's not Zaki or Emile Heskey, he's our Jason Scotland and as stated if he's good enough for Martinez he's good enough for me - that should go for all of us - but there again, we didn't always have 18,000 fans through the years and let me tell you Walter Boyd wasn't the only one sleeping in the centre stand during those times. This is a brilliant season... isn't it?! Put it this way, if you're not enjoying this, then you never will. SCFC ONE LOVE. |

"I promise you that I have nothing against JS and I honestly hope he can turn it around but either he's carrying an injury (doubtful) or he's simply not good enough at this level."
If that is the case highlighted, does it mean RM does not know what he's doing, bcos he picks the guy all the time, he seems to b RM's first choice striker. |

T2C,
I admire your unbounded support for Jason Scotland but even you have to admit that in quite a few games this season(especially the ones after a long haul flight) the player has not been at the races. Unfortunately so many posters do not realise how the game changed on Sunday, and a player like Scotland, who possesses very little movement off the ball, can so easily be closed down in the danger area. It's a pity that more criticism wasn't levied at the wide players and full backs for not having the cunning to open up the Bluebirds out wide, instead of going through the middle. OK, defenders are better this season, but Scotland's languid style of play saw him criticised in every game last season, despite the fact he scored almost 30 goals, so what. Fans have to accept that he is not a chaser of the ball, not a closer down of defenders, and just let him get on with what he can do, and that is score goals. But there again, is Roberto to blame for picking him after he has made those long haul flights back to the UK? Jason Scotland's Caribbean background, with their laid back approach to life reminds me of Walter Boyd, who, one day when the sun was shining was actually sleeping, standing up, leaning against the wall at the back of the centre stand. True story. Players in this division are going for millions of pounds, Scotland's game is in the last third of the pitch. All of his team mates should know by now what sort of pass the striker requires. Feed him quality pases and he will score goals, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, patience is something so many fans have little of and before too long there will be whinges from the fans of how a Play Off place has been squandered, irrespective of the club's main criteria this season of survival, and continue the rebuilding of the football club. Off to see the Youth team later v Man City and see how far off the likes of Sheehan, Richards, Howard and Thomas are against one of the best youth production lines in the country. |
||||||||
|
Billy,
I really don't dislike Scotland - that's far, far from the truth. I think he's not good enough at this level - that's all. I was being kinder to OTJ because he's come back from injury and is rusty. He also had less of the ball to lose as JS so therefore made less mistakes. Had he been fully match fit and on the top of his game, he probably would have had a 4 as well. I really hope OTJ does produce something because at the moment, I can't see what it's going to be. JS, on the other hand, is match fit and has bags of games under his belt. I've watched the game once more since Sunday and my opinion didn't change a bit. I was expecting to have missed a few decent things but I was still shrugging my shoulders as I saw defenders get in front of him to win balls and when the ball was played into him, his first touch usually gave it back. I promise you that I have nothing against JS and I honestly hope he can turn it around but either he's carrying an injury (doubtful) or he's simply not good enough at this level. Let's not make it personal though, ok Billy? |
||||||||

T2C,
Several here have made wonderful comments about the teams plus sides (Leon, Pintado, Rangel, Monk, Williams, Pratley mainly) and have, as they are entitled, also said what they thought about the downsides (Scotland, OTJ, Butler and Bessone mainly). The fact the you pick up on my post sums you up. I've seen the game, some in slower motion and how you can say that Scotland did well is beyond me....but it's your opinion. I honestly can see some strengths in JS but I can also see how he shouldn't be a target man or lone striker. It's my opinion - if you don't like it, ignore it or go somewhere where you like find like-minded people who can abuse each other all day. Abuse is probably the most operative word actually! Btw - I thought JS was atrocious at Coventry (as did RM and Williams judging by how they were screaming at him) but I didn't get on his back and scream at him as some do. I supported the team. Writing here or elsewhere is what I think after is what I would prefer to do and personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with voicing an opinion. So, T2C, accept that you and I have differing views regarding JS and move on to something else. Now......let's try.....Leon Britton.....do you think he's our most valuable player at the moment? |
||||||||
|
NickR
You wrote OTJ was average - he made a couple of excellent tackles late on but he's got to offer more than he does. He was always there in the middle but doesn't have anything special enough in his armour. A 5/10 for him. Scotland - poor, very. I don't know how anyone can defend him although I will give him credit for having the vision and skill to see Pratley and play a perfect ball for him to score the first. His touch was awful though and his workrate poor. We need better. Maybe Pintado is...if not, we need to find better. 4/10. I always read your postings moscow,because i find them so funny. It gives me a laugh, but the comments above i find truely staggering. Lets start with OTJ, a lack of match practice, off the pace, no confidence couldnt pass the ball more than three yards sideways, he had a shocker. He wasnt average he was very much below average. You are way out in your assessement of him. I only hope that after a few more games he can begin to cut it at this level because we need him to perform big time, if he is to fill the void left by Ferrie. Your findings on Jason i find insulting to him. What is it about you that you feel you have to attack him at every opportunity. I felt Jason Scotland worked very hard on Sunday, against a defence that doesnt leak many goals. He had a good game, what were you watching in Moscow, was the fog coming across the bar spoiling your view of the telly. Get real R and less have some geniune football postings, not a biased opinion agaainst someone you obviously dislike. |

"The perfect post" - hmmmm.
Sums it up alright but not the appraisal of Scotland but NickR's hapless attempts at demoloshing one of our players confidence. Watch the game back and watch it all, stopping every now and again to study the play, the positions, the touches. Then come back and tell me Scotland had a bad game. It's almost laughable. With everyone moaning at him he seems to come across as having a bad un every time, but the reality is far, far, FAR from the thruth and we, as supporters, over here are allowing this to happen. Nearly every post you'll read from Moscow is a pathetic attempt to destroy Jason - it's totally unbelievable. Why? Scotland held the ball up superbly well on Sunday, yes you can point out one or two things that he could have done better and when you're only looking to find these faults, ney - studying them, then of course you will find. Why aren't you pointing out some of the brilliant things he did for the team and i'm not talking about our first goal, but many, many, MANY other occasions when Scotland put a great through ball, or held it up superbly well and brought our midfield into the game or jinked inside the box just failing to get shots off. The ratio of good first touch to poor fist touch you will find is something like 80-90% on the good side. Watch the game back and see for yourselves. The facts are there to study, don't come on here looking to pick holes in something out of nothing. Why would any Swans fan do that? If Leon Britton was charged with the job of having 2 or 3 players up his arse on every occasion and having balls whacked at him from all sorts of different angles, he too would have the odd poor fist touch. And forget comparing our boys to Premiership players, and players who are excelling in the league at that. What's the effing point in that? We are where we are because we've fought tooth and nail to work our way up the leagues, from the very bottom to where we sit now - in the top 8 of the CCC. The players we've got have all played their part in this, ours and football's suucess story. If you don't like that or what they offer then what's it all about for you eh!? What the fook are you really expecting? We are better off without you - i make no excuses for saying that. Thankyou SCFC once again - we go marching on together. No Surrender!!! |

Tayside Jackette. Blackpool are rebuilding their end stand (it seems they have been for years!) Away supporters are along the open side of the pitch. The stand is a bit rickety, especially at the back when the game gets exciting. The view is pretty good, but wrap up well and wear waterproofs for 20 December!

here's a good weekend for the fa cup tie - the Histon ground is right next to the Holiday Inn (probably where the team will stay)- a 200m walk - you can get a double room (quote the ceefax price) for £44 - great bar - great swimming pool and a walk into the village with great pubs and a curry house. Cambridge is a £2 bus ride away (city 7) for a night out in this historic city.

Mark and other Scotland posters.
I do agree Scotland did well for the goal. Praters was screaming at him for it though. As for RM telling him to play in a certain way to some extent I also agree, but I don’t think RM tells him to do the following which frustrates me to boiling point:- 1. The man has skill no doubt, but then why has he got such a shocking 1st touch its close to no existent! 2. Ok, we do give him grief for not closing the keeper down. The thing that annoys me and he did it on several occasions not just in the Cardiff game but in others. He waddles up to the keeper then once it’s kicked out waddles back. On 2 or 3 occasions against Cardiff we'd won the ball but couldn’t play it to him as he was offside. He didn’t even bust a gut getting back onside. Might as well play with 10 at that point. 3. I'll only mention one other. A guy with his build should be able to hold a ball up, but can’t to save his life and gets knocked off the ball with ease. I know people say it’s a hard job up on his own, ok it can be. But, was he moaning when he was up front on his own last season. No, yes yes, different league diff standard. Also, I remember watching Zaki play for Wigan. Andy Gray commented on him. He was still busting a gut in the 88min. Gray said anyone say upfront on your own moaning should look at Zaki proves it can’t be done. That’s coming from an ex pro not me! |

Did the Derby gate of 18000 include the 1650 away supporters, ie was it 16.500 + 1600 away. As the home team Swans get the TV money am I right in thinking its £150k'ish

Thanks for the info, we shall be there.
Weve done quite a lot of aways this season (Norwich the highlight) and most homes. If its on Sky tho its going to be the pub for the Burnley game. The car and credit card could do with a rest! |

just a thought but what are peoples thoughts about going in for ex Arsenal midfielder Stephen Hughes as cover for our midfield. Good footballing defensive midfielder.

Hello Linger
Usually the F3K in West Kensington mate. Having said that we are more often than not at the games but there are always a few unable to travel and watching the game in town if it's televised. There's a list of upcoming games and arrangements on our website: [z10.invisionfree.com] |

Looks like we are one of Skys favourite teams at the moment, and who can blame them with the entertainment delivered in the games theyve covered.
One question where do all London swans fans go to watch the games?? Is it that sports bar in leicester square or is there a better venue. On subject of the stadium size, lets not forget it was built when we were a league 2 side!!! But i dont see why we have to give the 25 or so fans who travel down for away games, the whole end of the ground behind the goal. Surely we can put these segregated in the corner and open up the rest for home fans????? |

It`s a wonder we don`t have more sendings off during games as it is so easy to get a yellow card.
Some yellow cards are more deserved than others for far more serious offences with far more intent. For these offences it would be nice to see a system simular to the rugby sin bin available to referees. The player gets a booking but he and his team also pay an immediate price for serious foul play with a benefit to the team they are playing not the ones they are playing next week.Its rare to see a player who has been in the bin later being sent off in Rugby OK shoot me down!Just a thought. It`s slow in work today!I better go and lie down. |

swans are on sky again in january against burnley at turf moor so another opportunity for exiles to watch the swans play live again.
cardiff game was a decent game and atmosphere considering early kick off and on sunday morning. the cardiff fans were nothing special and they seem to have a higher opinion of themselves than the reality enckleman pulled off some good saves at the end to earn them a point and pintado is starting to look a player. the liberty should have been built bigger to accomodate 20k home fans, 3k away fans and room for segregation but that's swansea council for you |

Just bought the Blackpool tickets - bit of a rip off, I think, compared to some other away games - £26 adults, £18 for 16-18 yr-olds, £15 for under 16s - a cool £116 - OUCH!!!! Just as well we don't go to all the games. Blackpool's not exactly a top notch stadium either and we are at the uncovered end of the ground. The Swans had just better win, that's all...

Colin Swansea. Gomez loan is for the season. As for the ex Cambridge guy what effect cold showers will have on a game beats me. Most players tend to shower after the game.
